Mamat Karim : Is it too late?

steadyaku47 comments; The article below is from the FB of my cousin Mamat who is way past 69 and has been through as much of life as I have had. When I am in KL he is my rock...someone I can call upon to talk, discuss and shoot the breeze....well mostly to shoot the breeze! Thanks Mat.

There are so much hate and distrust spanning the entire spectrum of Malaysian society and nothing is being done to rectify this by those who hold the reins of power.

It is festering.

The dominant ethnic group is being fed with racial overtones in order to promote a "circle round the wagons" mentality or they will suffer the alternative of being reduced to the status of "2nd class citizen" in your own homeland.

How, when and why did we reach the depth of such great divide.

In this land of plenty and harmony, we, the natives and immìigrants had survived alongside each other for ages.

Before independence, we were Malays, Chinese, Indians and other races.

After Merdeka, we became Melayu, Cina, India and lain lain.

Today, we are Islam, Cina, Kristian, Hindu, Sabahans, Sarawakians, Indon, Bangla, Rohinyas and pendatangs.

We are a free country for more than half a century. Instead of proudly announcing to the world we are "MALAYSIANS", our 'leaders' decided to champion their electoral rice bowl by declaring they are Malay first before Malaysian.

Other ethnic groups have no qualms in announcing they are Malaysians.

Maybe there is the tendency of East Malaysia to insist on identifying themselves as Sabahans and Sarawakians. Whose fault is this??

Is it too late?
