Each new day is the dawn of a new horror...

I know that in the last UMNO meeting chaired by Dato Onn before he left UMNO, he wanted to know who was going to take his place as leader. Nobody was prepared to answer Dato Onn’s question. He then turned to Tun Razak and asked: “Adakah awak yang hendak menjadi Ketua Umno?”. Tun Razak replied: “Belum sampai masa lagi untuk saya nak jadi Ketua UMNO – tapi saya ada satu orang yang saya fikir layak …ya itu Tunku Abdul Rahman” and so it came to pass that Tunku became UMNO’s President.

I obtained the above information from just five minutes of surfing the internet. Now what has this got to do with Najib son of Tun Razak? Very simply this – through the internet we know what you have done in the past, what you have done while you were with MINDEF and what you are doing now. We know about your personal life, your social life and your political life. If you had known then about the internet and that you would one day be Prime Minster of this country you might have done some things differently. With hindsight so would we and be better people.

And now fast forward to the present...

Swigert: 'Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here.'
Duke: 'This is Houston. Say again please.'

Lovell: 'Houston, we've had a problem. We've had a main B bus undervolt.'

Najib, you now have ‘a main B bus undervolt’ problem. If you think this is a problem just think ahead. All regrets about these problems you now have will vanished once the GE looms ahead…..then it will be strictly a case of survival. This entire 1Malaysia thing will not be of help then. Here in Malaysia it would seem that everyday is the dawn of a new horror for you.

We know about your ties with Razak Baginda and the payment of over Ringgit 500 million as a “project services provider” in the deal with Armaris for delivery of two new Scorpene and one refurbished Agosta submarines to the Malaysian Navy. What we do not know is what are the ‘services’ provided for that would be worth Ringgit 500 million?

We know about Altantuya Shaaribuu. Sirul Azhar Umar and Azilah Hadri confessed that they bundled her away from Baginda’s house and drove her to a state forest, shot her dead and blew up the body with military explosives. Immigration records of Altantuya had been deleted. Witnesses have dropped from sight including Balasubramaniam Perumal, who said in a sworn statement that the Mongolian woman was your mistress. He retracted his allegations the next day in a hastily convened news conference, and then disappeared, along with his wife and three children. Why?

We know that Baginda, who was charged as an accomplice in the murder of Altantuya received an SMS message from you “I wil see the Inspector General of Police at 11am today…The problem will be solved. Be cool.” True enough, in October a judge ruled that Baginda has no case to answer.

All that Teoh Beog Hock did was to assist MACC in their investigation. He was ‘cooperative’ and he ended up dead? We are not saying that it was your fault but we are blaming you because it happened under your watch as Prime Minister.

Despite the advisors and ‘sahabats’ that you now have around you none have been able to make you understand what it is that you need do to win the hearts and mind of the people. Who will do so?

I can. Lim Kit Siang can, Karpal Singh can. Even Anwar Ibrahim can - and they will do so despite the fact that if you are able to win the hearts and minds of the people if would mean that you are knocking another nail into their coffin. They will all say the same thing. Scrap the ISA. You do that and there will be an immediate increase in you popularity ratings from 65% to 75%...and they will be happy - for what you did what was right. But what about the “subversive elements” in the country? Najib you have the Special Branch, PDRM, the Army, MACC, the Judiciary System and an AG who will take instructions from you. You have many other instruments of State that you could use to ‘manage’ these subversive elements. Yes Pakatan Rakyat will claim that they made you abolish the ISA – but that still will not overshadow the fact that it was Najib Razak who returned freedom to the Rakyat by the abolishment of the ISA. No Najib, abolishing the ISA will not be a ‘brave’ political decision – (‘brave’ in political terms would normally mean ‘suicidal’ lah….) it will be the right thing to do.

After abolishing the ISA work on doing the right thing over the PKFZ issue. Expose it for what it really is – and we all already know what it really is - jobs for the boys, another ‘selup tangan dalam poket’ situation and money for MCA and UMNO leaders and their cronies. Do the decent thing and go after them. Put the fear of God into MCA and the easier it is for you to ‘manage’ them.

There are other things you can do.

It would not be a good idea to appoint JJ as the ambassador to USA. We know what he has been up to when he was in TNB and his extra curricular activities. Can you imagine what the CIA and FBI will have on him once he starts his shenanigans in Washington? They will have him by the balls and you know what they say – once you have anybody by the balls, his heart and mind will follow. He cannot compromise the dignity and integrity of our country. Do not take the chance. If you insist on doing so then be prepared for another horror to come at the dawn of another day sometime in the future.

Change the IGP – the public poll conducted by your cousin Hishammuddin already tells you what the public wants done – again you can be seen to be making the right decision.

Perak? The people are already forgetting what has happened – do the right thing there. We know that you cannot call an election because Barisan will lose. The next best thing? Let the court decide – but expedite the process and adhere to the court decision.

Change the CJ. This guy is not only an UMNO lackey but he also did an illegal act (naughty boy !!) when he married that Hayati without his wife’s consent. Of course not having his wife’s consent must have been his excuse for going over the border. It was okay for my ex banduan friend Amri to do so but then Amri was doing it for the pleasure of the flesh. Must have been love for the soon to be CJ. When he goes it can be seen as the first decisive and ‘brave’ step you are taking to clean up the Judiciary. Again that ‘brave’ word…

You know that Kampong Buah Bala situation in Penang – solve it and you will have wrong footed Hindraf, Pakatan and MIC all put together. Though I know that wrong footing Samy the Velu does not count for much in the times that we are now living in.

Anwar – do not prosecute him. He can do more harm to you during a trial then if he was to be allowed to take PKR down the course it is now on. PR already have problems within its rank – he will have enough problem trying to sort things out there – putting him on trial will just give him a welcome distraction and rally his supporters to a common cause – i.e. putting you out of business…and this Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan does not have the ability to withstand the mental pressure he will be under during the course of the trial. This guy is a lightweight. Do not pit him against Anwar. Bodoh punya kerja.

What else can you do? I can mention few other things on the home front – but I think fair is fair - let us not get too personal. It would be fair for me to say that what I have outlined so far will be more then enough to put you as numero uno in this country of ours…and who knows, you might even begin to enjoy being our PM as Pak Lah was inclined to do..…until the next GE comes onto the horizon. For now you do all this and you will surely see changes even as early as the Permatang Pasir state by-election …I kid you not.

Malaysia's greatest collection of lies....

"I regret that there were chaos and tension at the Perak Assembly sitting which should not have occurred because we should show to the world that the democracy practiced in Malaysia is based on ethics and principles according to the regulations and laws, whether the law of the country or House procedures. Najib.

The Prime Minister also said the arrest of scores of people in the run-up to the state assembly sitting was police action and the government had nothing to do with it.

"The police have the responsibility to maintain law and order and I cannot micro-manage the police. The police must decide on their own on what action to take and I am sure the police know what action to take," he added. Najib.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 2009 (Bernama) -- Acknowledging the importance for any government to have the trust and confidence of the people, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that one of the best ways to win the trust and confidence of the people is to be truthful to them.

"Once we are able to deliver what is promised and be more transparent and open with others, we will have built a solid foundation for trust," he said. Najib.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today his administration would not use the Internal Security Act (ISA) arbitrarily but would give importance to the principles of human rights and civil liberties.

Najib told reporters the Cabinet decisions were prompted by the desire to conduct a thorough investigation to find out the cause of the incident.

"I, just like the other members of the Cabinet, also want to know the actual cause of Teoh's death.

"As such, I hope that all quarters would exercise patience and not make statements which confuse the people and raise wrong perceptions, or politicise the issue," he said.

Najib said that the Cabinet decisions reflected the government's determination and commitment to find out the cause of the incident so that Teoh's family and the people would know what actually happened.

We want to establish the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in this case. And the process of investigation will be forthright and transparent," he said.

Establish the truth and to ensure "public faith and confidence in these important institutions in this country".

We will support the proposal because we want justice to prevail,” he said in a statement here.
Samy Vellu also expressed his condolences to the family of the late Teoh.

Abdullah was confident that BN would win big based on the government's performance and its ability to fulfil its promises to the people

"The BN government has also managed to improve on its successes, besides having the experience to effectively administer the country."

On his denial yesterday that parliament would be dissolved today, the prime minister said: "I could not give any clue to the date as I needed to get the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong first before I could make the announcement."

Murugiah, who is embroiled in a leadership tussle with party president Datuk M. Kayveas, said he was confident of being declared the legal head of the PPP by the Registrar of Societies. I'm a straightforward and honest person, sometimes even blunt. Maybe some see that as being arrogant.
Q: There is talk that you have been planted by Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu to break Datuk S. Subramaniam's support base, especially among his Gounder clan. Is this true?
A: No one can plant or buy me over. People say things like this because of their fear of me. I'm the third person in the party hierarchy and am not interested in positions.

On Saturday, Subramaniam said he had joined PKR for the sake of unity as the party brought all races together.

"I feel this is the party for the future. I joined the party on my own free will."
Samy Vellu dismissed claims that about 1,600 MIC members had left the party to join Subramaniam.

Mahathir on Lingam:
Dr Mahathir: I've heard about him in the newspapers involving several cases. I only got to know him recently when I engaged his services in a civil suit filed against me by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Saya pantang dicabar!” declared Prime Minister Abdullah in an uncharacteristically bold assertion to the media on the eve of BERSIH’s massive street demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, November 10, 2007.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday
called on university students to uphold the principle of intellectual honesty in evaluating or scrutinising
issues.

"The people would want to know if there is any corruption involved. If there is, it has to be exposed," Suhaimi said outside Plaza Masalam here, yesterday.

“If we finally decide to co-operate, it must be because of national interest, not because of parochial interest of certain individuals,” he said, after opening the Kepong Wanita Umno delegates conference at a hotel here yesterday.

To everybody's surprise, Khir Toyo has been declared "clean". Such were the findings of the Disciplinary Committee of Umno.

This is a significant step towards a more matured MCA as it shows that the leadership and party are able to unite and be loyal to a cause, and not to any individual or groups of people,” Ong wrote in his blog

We are interested in the truth, whether it is in the form of a Royal Commission or an inquest.
“It’s not about politicising it or about gaining political advantage. It is to find the truth and to tell the family what really happened.

Police chief: It’s our duty to be thorough

PETALING JAYA: Police investigations into Teoh Beng Hock’s death would be carried out thoroughly even if it impedes the MACC’s investigations into the alleged misappropriation of state allocations involving seven Selangor assemblymen and executive councillors.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the police have to fulfil their duties by investigating the case fully.
“We had no choice, investigations must be done thoroughly even if it causes inconvenience to parties involved,” he said when contacted.
He was responding to claims by Selangor MACC director Ja’afar Mahad that the police investigation into Teoh’s death was slowing down the commission’s own investigations.
DCP Khalid said what happened was unavoidable as the police have to carry out their responsibilities impartially.

Religious leader Datuk Abu Hasan Din Al-Hafiz claimed that it was not impossible for a man to have sex many times in one night if he was “friendly with the devil”

Any contributions towards this list would be greatly appreciated – then we can put together the ‘mother of all list’.

A Government of the People?

As the Chinese say may you live in interesting time. And we do, we do - but what will Tunku, Tun Razak and Tun Hussein Onn think of what is now happening to their country, our country?

Are there ‘external forces’ disrupting peace in the country?
No.

Are there anti social elements within the country trying to create fear in the mind of the Rakyat for their own selfish purposes?
No.

Are racial factions with vested interest fighting over petty issues that will disrupt peace and calm and create panic amongst the population in the country?
No.

And yet we seem to have a Government that see itself to be under threat. And yet our people seem to be on the brink of despair abandoning any hope for a sense of justice, decency and hope in their daily life.

What we have now is a Government of the people but not for the people. We seem to have a government that operates without the need for the system of checks and balances that are fundamental to and demanded of by a modern state that Malaysia proclaims itself to be. We have a government that is very strong but with shaky foundations because it lacks the absolute mandate to govern as it does now and in continuing to do so has abused the trust placed upon it by the people. A government that seems ready to destroy the very foundation of a modern democratic state to save itself – nay its leaders, from losing power. A Government that time and time again abuses the instruments of states for its own selfish purposes. It will be hard to rid us of this abuse of the democratic process in place within our system because the abuse is not within the system but is the system itself. Or to be more exact the guardians of this system.

Now Najib is faced with too many questions that he cannot answer because he can’t. How is he to answer Razak Baginda’s hideous commission from MINDEF for work done? How is he to answer the questions about Altantuya? What is he prepared to do to put Anwar away again? What happened to Kugan? How many times can the Judiciary be manipulated? How many times will the AG take instructions from the PM? Will PDRM continue to allow itself to be used time and time again in return for the Government closing its eyes to their excesses - quid pro quo? How will he placate Mahathir ? ..and now MACC?

In the best of times Najib has not been known to be a Mahathir. In these trying times even Mahathir himself would be hard pressed to mount any decent rear guard action to protect his flank. Najib will be hard pressed to close the chasm that is opening between image and reality. We now have an UMNO that does not want to hear what the Rakyat is saying but instead is involve in a life and death struggle of its own and of its leader Najib. Every criticism is seen as a campaign and a plot by Pakatan Rakyat to outmaneuver them and create subversion that must be neutralized with the use of all arsenal at their disposal – PDRM, MACC and the Judiciary…and let us not forget money, lots of money!!. And yet they know they are vulnerable. The crack has opened up since the last GE - and not for the first time UMNO/Barisan is on the defensive. This time it will be a life and death struggle that will have its nadir at the next General Election.

Let us hope that the democratic foundation put in place by our Tunku, Tun Razak and Tun Hussein will be able to withstand these assaults by the present. If it is not then our country will surely descend into chaos and trouble as ‘All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing’ …and there are enough good man left who will not do nothing and allow evil to triumph.

Emmett, Terrina and Izzy.....

Emmett in his element...singing with Butterfingers.

Together...

Steady as she goes...sabar.

This is exactly the type of press that we do not want because allegations and innuendos will get us nowhere fast. Consider this piece:

“Well-placed sources and officials close to the MACC said Teoh was “manhandled and threatened” by investigators during a 10-hour interrogation as part of a political conspiracy to bring down opposition leaders, led by Anwar Ibrahim, and to implicate them for alleged misuse of funds.

“When he refused to do so, the officers dragged him to a window on the 14-story building and threatened to throw him out,” the said the source who was not authorized to speak to media”

These well placed sources who were not authorized to speak to the media – who are they to know these ‘facts’? Apart from the officers from MACC themselves the only other well placed sources that would be able to tell it like it is would be the fly on the wall – and to my knowledge they do not speak. Will MACC break ranks and have their own rat on them? Not likely but we can hope against hope. As to this political conspiracy to bring down opposition leaders – come lah, we are also trying to do the same thing to them. Our methods differ but when push come to shove methinks that Anwar can come up with some tricks up his sleeves too – remember his ‘fight’ with Mahathir?

“It was reported yesterday that from the line of questioning by the police with Teoh’s family members, it was apparent that they were trying to absolve the MACC from any blame or liability. Both Malaysiakini and Malaysian Insider had reported this.

According to these reports, most of the questions focused on the possibility that Teoh’s death COULD NOT have been caused by MACC’s officers and that Teoh was a troubled and suicidal person”

Of course they are trying to absolve the MACC from any blame or liability!! Would you expect anything less when the Police are investigating themselves? Have you seen any of those ragut or snatch thieves own up to what they have done even when caught red handed by the public? If they feel sorry for themselves it is because they were caught and certainly not for stealing. The Police would be insulting themselves if they try anything less. As for their line of questioning – asking about suicidal tendencies is routine in a sudden death situation like TBH.

We must remember that whatever we come up with – eyewitness accounts, videotapes, recordings etc – there are ways and means for them to close one eye and shut the other. Hell they even go so far as to ask for that to be done officially. In the past they have got away with it time and time again  - but like when Anwar was hit while under Police Custody – if the proof is overwhelming – if it looks like murder, if there are overwhelming evidence to say that they have committed murder and if everything points to a murder and if it really was murder – then the powers that be will have to say that it is murder. They are not going to protect the Police if it means that they are going to go down together. Until then – we wait and see.

Methinks  MACC will fall on its own sword – for well have they pledge allegiance to God and loyalty to King and country ..they better hope that King and Country will save them because God certainly will not.

Online exclusive - NST

It is now 9.49pm and as is my habit - after the day is almost done – and with  ‘Desperate Housewife’ on TV that means that I will have to go to my PC for alternative entertainment. After having a look through The Vision – Uganda’s leading website – I then went to NSTP online just so that I will not miss any earth shattering news and happenings that UMNO wants me to know. An online exclusive caught my eye.

DAILY DISPATCHES: They got their Royal Commission of Inquiry but will they stop their lynching?

IN ordering the formation of a Royal Commission of Inquiry today to probe the chary death of Teoh Boon Hock, the young DAP cadre whose body was found sprawled outside Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Shah Alam headquarters last week, the Cabinet committed the most pragmatic decision it could make in light of the over-the-top outrage generated, mostly by Pakatan Rakyat leaders and its band of noxious supporters.

Immedietly I had to go to the dictionary when I came across ‘chary’ in the very first paragraph. It meant ‘sorrowful’. Impressed I press on – this reporter can almost be mistaken for a writer!

The next sentence contained another ambigious word (to me) ‘cadre’ which according to Webster means ‘Cadre (pronounced /ˈkɑːdreɪ/, from the French) is the backbone of an organization, usually a political or military organization. Generally it is applied to a small core of committed and experienced people who are capable of providing leadership and of training newer members’

Again I am impressed. This reporter must be worth his weight in gold to his Editor. He has used ‘chary’ and ‘cadre’ in the very first paragraph of this online inclusive. Must have gone to the same learning instituition as that Ketua Pemuda fellow – aisehman I mean during his primary years lah.

Next came ‘pragmatic’ which I was quite familiar with having had to salute many a PDRM mata mata with a ‘boleh selesai encik’ – not because I want to but I had to be pragmatic.

A few seconds later I came across another hard one ‘noxious’ –

morally harmful; corrupting; pernicious:

Morally harmful and corrupting being the operative word – words that this reporter should be familiar with when working for Political Masters who are not from Pakatan Rakat.

Suffice to say that at this juncture I said enough. Who is he trying to impress? Chary, cadre, pragmatic and noxious  ..and we are not even past the first paragraph. Sheesh (as my late fellow blogger The Ancient Mariner would say)…I have other things to do then go on reading this pretentious idiot piece. I rather go torture myself and watch ‘Desperate Housewife’ ….with one eye open and one eye close of course.

This would be one of those reasons why I have been put on this earth...my dearest granddaughter Isabel..how I miss her. After having had words with Abang Lah (please refer to my previous postings!!!!) she has had to seek other pastures....

Why I will not be accepting Ku Li’s decision to not accept Zaid’s offer…

With respects Sir your personal want’s matters not at a time when the country requires your guidance and wise counsel. We have need for an elder Statemans to sit within our midst to ensure that the path we take is the right one. We have need for a voice of reason to take us on a ‘steady as she goes’ course as Pakatan Rakyat sails into uncharted waters not knowing what it will encounter in the need to ensure good governance of our country in the days to come. Who else will do that for us? Who else will have that strength of character to stand up against the likes of Anwar, Tok Guru. Kit Siang and Kapral if not you Sir? Who else will not turn and run when push comes to shove in the hurly burly of the ‘take no prisoners’ politics of  UMNO?  Who else but you Sir.

I am past listing the litany of abuse and deceits of UMNO. I am past trying to understand the stupidity of those in power to constantly abuse the trust we have place in them. I am past being angry at the audacity of those whom are sworn to protect us continue to time and time again, do us harm and cause heart aches to those whose love ones have died in custody.

Let me not belittle our call to you Sir by equating it to a call to National Service. As you said the situation we have now transcends party politics. Will you then Sir, rise above party politics and lead us for as long as you physically can and then we will allow you to retire with the thanks of a grateful nation and its people….and if it does any good at all Sir, this heartful plea comes from a Budak Kolet despairing of what our country has become.

The Great Divide.

The death of Teoh Beng Hock has achieved nothing more then to reinforce the great divide between the Rakyat’s expectations of what their Government should do and what it is really doing. The Rakyat expects our Government to do the following:

• To protect our country.
• To preserve peace within its boundaries.
• To ensure every Rakyat has space in Malaysia for a home and a means of        livelihood.

What has happened to Teoh Beng Hock is neglect by the Government of its duties - no more no less. The death of Teoh Beng Hock has raised the worst-case scenario for MACC - namely that in its zeal to do the bidding of it’s political masters they have unwittingly conspire to perpetuate the self fulfilling prophecy, i.e. that they are part and parcel of Barisan’s relentless attempts to eliminate Pakatan Rakyat. A death in custody is par for the course. The arrogance of power precludes caution and makes it’s perpetrator unable to understand that peeing into the wind is just not a sensible thing to do.

But this worries me - the Rakyat forgets easily.

What happened in Perak few months ago are now history and its business as usual there?

The collapse of the Stadium in KT has been effectively neutralised – no contractor have put up their hands owning to their misdeeds (though of course the usual ‘thoroughly investigated’ and ‘important to ensure such an incident did not recur in the future’ has been parroted by the powers that be)

Kugan is a done deal and in a few more months, will just be a blip on the horizon.

Istana Khir Toyo? Cannot prove he took money – the fact that he has an Istana that looks $25million, that costs $25million and that shouts that this is a man who has an Istana bought with his ill gotten gains while in public office does not mean he is corrupt – just resourceful.

KJ got a slight slap on the wrist for being a naught boy –let us call a spade a spade – he was just a little bit into money politics (ha ha ha )– so can let him go lah.

Altantuya drifts further and further away as the clock turn. Razak Baginda is already comfortable settled in a land far away with a considerable cash reserve courtesy of the Ministry of Defence.

JJ is Ambassador to the US of A (like putting a kid in a candy store!!), Perwaja is reduced to a ‘work in progress’ that should go away by next year…. the list goes on but I think you get my drift. What will it take to shake the Racist from their stupor, Barisan from their arrogance and Pakatan Rakyat from their knee jerk reaction to situations happening around us?

Why not take the offensive. Pakatan Rakyat is the Kerajaan in waiting. Act in a statesman like manner. Lead us. Holding demonstration and press conferences might be good for the soul but is a waste of time in terms of getting things done. Where is that second line of leaders that Pakatan will surely need come the next GE. The current leader within Pakatan must now be king makers because the peoples expectations are much too high for you all to meet. Painful as it is to accept these realities – you all must if you are to be an effective government-in-waiting. Where is your shadow cabinet – which are the potential ministers, your spokesman in Defence, in Finance, in Commerce, in Agriculture? It augers ill for us if the be all and end all of all Pakatan Rakyat polices should have to come from Anwar alone.

These things are necessary for Pakatan Rakyat to prepare itself for taking over from Barisan after the next General Election.

• Be truthful when talking with the Rakyat.
Tell them what is possible to do and what is not possible. Eradicating corruption completely is not possible – there will be people within Pakatan who are already salivating at the thought of what money they could make now that you are already controlling some states. Be transparent and do the right thing – and the rakyat will be forgiving. We are in this together and mistakes will be made – but if we learn from these mistakes it will only be a positive thing for us all. Tell them what procedures you will put in place to ensure corruption, nepotism and all the evils that Barisan perpetuated are controlled.

• Tell the people what Barisan have been doing.
Expose the corruption, the mismangement, the nepostism, the jobs for the boys culture, the extent of wastage in public spending, the weakness of the family structure because of this culture of materialism – and blame all this on Barisan years rule. Tell us how you can do better.

• Prepare well for Government.
You are already in control of four states. You will need your present leaders to lead for a while – then prepare for the handover to a younger generation of leaders able to fell the pulse of the nation and do the necessary.

Do all this now and TELL US so that we know that you are ready to become the next Government of Malaysia.

Beer-drinking model faces caning
AAP
July 21, 2009, 2:21 pm

A religious court in Malaysia has sentenced a tearful Singaporean Muslim model to six strokes of the cane after she drank beer in a nightclub, reports say.
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 32, pleaded guilty to consuming alcohol at a hotel nightclub in the eastern state of Pahang last year, the New Straits Times newspaper reported on Tuesday.
"We feel the sentence is fair after going through the prosecution's argument and since the rotan (cane) is provided for in the law," Pahang Sharia High Court judge Abdul Rahman Yunus said, according to the paper.
"The rotan is aimed at making the accused repent and serves as a lesson to Muslims," he added, also fining Kartika 5,000 ringgit ($A1,731).
The model, who cried when the judgment was delivered, said she would appeal against it.
State religious officials could not be reached for comment on the case.
Malaysia, which has large Indian and Chinese minorities freely enjoying alcohol, has a two-track legal system. Civil courts operate alongside state-based sharia courts, which can try Muslims for religious offences.

The above story came out in the Oz media today. Think what you will, comment how you want about Western Media having no understanding of our sensitivities but this I want to say – it does not do any good to Malaysia’s image about being a developed and tolerant Nation. If she want's to drink - let her. She can explain herself to our maker when she leaves this earth.

One of life's pleasures....

I always love to see the gleam in Bob’s eyes every time we go for lunch at the daun pisang restaurant. (Is it not strange that a lot of generously proportioned individuals in KL are call BOB?) He goes to wash his hands then take his place at the table…sleeves rolled up and unable to make conversation in anticipation of the feast to come and as he impatiently waits for service. The daun pisang is placed in front of him .The rice is plonked on to the daun pisang and now comes the ‘oh so sweet’ moment for Bob as the waiter approaches the table with the tray of dishes to go with the rice. With a flourish of his hands, the wrist making a half turn with fingers outstretch and pointing into his plate…he tells the waiter cum cook cum cashier…"semua tarok!!!!". The waiter (who is almost a chef too–he does the fried mee when not serving the customers) dishes out ‘semua tarok’ and moves gracefully around the table until we are all served, then moves on to do his work as God has intended him to do, serving the other customers. Following closely behind is the guy with the papadoms – stored in a huge tin – the ‘piece de résistance’ that adds that zing to the meal.

It is an unwritten rule amongst us that the first few minutes of a daun pisang meal must be in total silence as we give each other time to enjoy the joys of tasting that wonderful aromatic and spicy meal. Then with a glazed look in his eyes Bob will look east–towards Brickfields where his favourite Daun Pisang restaurant is located, take a sip of the ice water by his side (only ice water will do so that it will not deter one from tasting fully the joys of having a daun pisang meal) signalling that “yes we can talk now” session can begin

We do not do much conversing during these meals because the chatter of the lunch crowd floats around and above your head discouraging any attempts to catch up with what is happening. Najib, Anwar or Mahathir seems irrelevant when you are eating such scrumptious meals. Aaaaahhhh KL, truly magic.

The Rakyat will prevail.

They just do not get it. When you have made a mistake you simply put up your hands and say “ I am sorry. It is my fault” then you try to make amends for whatever it is that you made done wrong. If you are contrite enough you will be forgiven and the people you have wronged might accept you back again into their fold and all will be forgiven.

Then there is the other way of doing things. Deny, deny deny. Go on the offensive straight away and plead innocent of all charges. Bluff your way through with enough bluster, thunderbolt and lighting..very very frightening…. and maybe though all that bluff the person wronged might be persuaded to just go away and accept that life is just not fair.

One of life’s constant memory for me is of Kirk Douglas standing up to proclaim “I’m Spartacus!” to Crassus (who had promised that the others will not be punished if they identify Spartacus or his body) only to be upstaged by Tony Curtis and all the others standing up together to proclaim “I’m Spartacus ! because they were all prepared to sacrifice themselves so that Spartacus could live.

In standing up for our rights and our dignity in our own country we all need to be Spartacus! There are too many of us for PDRM to arrest. Too many of us for them to put under ISA. Too many of us for MACC to question. Too many of us to ignore. But it would still take great courage and determination for us to stand together against the might of Barisan. Even God, it can be argued, favors those with deep pockets and large armies.

These are not difficult days for us. In time to come we will look back and know that these were our greatest days for we are part of that movement that will give our children and our children’s children a secure and decent future in Malaysia.

There are many people on the side of Barisan. They are a coalition of the willing bounded together by their own selfish sense of purpose. Even the oppressed minority within UMNO (those UMNO leaders who are not yet rich) will always display a unwavering and unquestioning loyalty to UMNO in in the hope that they too can get their snout in the trough during feeding time (read General Election time or any by elections along the way !!!!).

So what can we do.

We cannot fight the Police on the streets. In a riot situation the Police are in their elements. They have the discipline the weapons and the technical know how to control and subdued any numbers from our ranks. But we can keep the anger within us and not forget Justice for All, Respect for the rights of each citizen and leaders who are accountable and responsible in the things that they do. We must keep the anger within us my friend so that our Country, our Life, our Justice System, our Government, our Police, our Leaders will become accountable to us. Work for us. Listen to us and will look after us.

We do not have long to wait. The next General Election will put the fear of God into Barisan/UMNO. There will be desertion in droves from within their ranks to join us. If they are rats fleeing a sinking ship, then it will be for us to do what we do to rats fleeing a sinking ship – cut the rope that ties the ship to the berth and let them drown. There will be desperation from within their ranks and attempts to negotiate alliances and establish life lines with Pakatan Rakyat when all else fail for them – we must resists the temptation to do so. No jumping frogs – but we do want an orderly and dignified march to our side.

Do not concern ourselves too much with PDRM, MACC or any Government Ministries – they will take instructions from their political Masters – and after the next GE – we will be their political masters.

So my friends our path is set. Our resolve must be strong and it is for our Pakatan Rakyat leaders to lead us to the next election and victory. Anwar Ibrahim, Lim Kit Siang, Tuan Guru, Karpal Singh, Khalid...and there will be others...you are our hope. Do not let us down.

"Victory at all costs and in spite of all terrors; victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival." Winston Churchill.

another Friend gone....

A friend, a schoolmate, a fellow blogger whose last email to me was just yesterday….passed away last night in his asleep.

The Ancient Mariner

is no longer with us. I know not what to say except to think of what his Family must be going through now. Captain Yusof, Usop as we know him and Captain as I like to address him – lost his dear mother only last week and now he himself has left us. Yes he called a spade a spade, did not pull any punches when he could be a bit more gentle with me in his comments on my comments to his writing – but that was Captain – as he like to say of himself…”an in your face” kind of guy – but a kind person who went to a lot of work to keep all of us – his MCKK64 School mates together through our MCKK64 blog site. For that we are all grateful to you Captain. For now rest in peace. I miss you already. For those with loved ones, live each day with them as if it was your last – then when they leave you there will be no regrets – just the missing of them. When Captain sent me the email last night, as always he was thinking of me rather then of himself. He was happy that an article I wrote was picked up by the Malaysian Insider and congratuted me …and I am glad that I replied with thanks immedietly. Captain rest in peace. Al Fatihah – I miss you already.

nazri aziz...a truly unpleasant man indeed.

When I am faced with an obnoxious salesman who thinks that he is doing me a favor by serving me, a mechanic who is obviously taking me for a ride by charging me exorbitantly for a minor fault in my 1982 Daihatsu Charade CX car engine, a taxi driver who wants Ringgit $15 to take me from KLCC to Tabung Haji Hq at 5pm( simply because he thinks he can), a thief who offers to sell me A Rolex DateJust 18K President for $120 o.n.o…. any distasteful situation …I walk away.

I will do that to Nazri Aziz the next time I see him. In my years of life, and I am 62 years old and an ex MCKK boy to boot, I have never had a more unpleasant experience of trying to meet with someone as I have had with this Nazri. I was waiting to see him in the lobby of Parliament on a matter, not of national importance, not to ask him a personal favor but to alert him to a situation where, in my humble opinion, justice was not being served. After briefing his Press Secretary Haji Mat Isa on the matter, Haji Mat advised that I should bring the matter to Nazri’s attention and he would arranged the meeting during a break in proceedings. I waited patiently for one hour for see him. When he sat down not 10 feet away from me and Mat Isa went to him to see if he could spare me 5 minutes of his time – and this after I told Mat Isa to tell him that I was a Budak Kolet – not only did he not spare me the 5 minutes but he did not even had the courtesy to look in my direction and acknowledge my presence – hamsap punya orang.

But I am please that Najib had saw it fit to appoint him a Minister in his Cabinet. We would need more Ministers of his genre to hasten UMNO's fall from grace.   Birds of a feather……

Life like that...in Malaysia.

I remember an occasion when I was waiting for a bus at Chow Kit at a fairly busy hour. A bus with more then it’s quota of passengers arrived. Nobody on the bus had time to get off. People surged onto the already fill to capacity bus. I watched with amusement as the conductor went “ masuk…..masukmasuk lahmasuk lagiboleh masuk lagi” and this went on until a sensible passenger simply refused to board the bus despite urgings from the conductor and those behind him.

Who can forget Lat’s depiction of that busty Chinese lady enthusiastically urging with arms akimbo, the car driver who was reversing his car to “gostangostangostan…” and then running away as the poor driver backed his car (at her direction) into the longkang.

I remember the time I engaged a taxi driver in discussions about the merits and demerits (if any) of Samy Velu. I started with the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology University (AIMST), MAIKA Holdings, and Samy’s plan for Indians to achieve 3% equity in the business sector by 2010. The driver looked at me through his rear view window as I rattle on about the longevity of their President who, I reminded him., worked himself up from a Bus Conductor to where he is now – at the pinnacle MIC. He stopped me in full flight with a “POODAH lah dey! !!!” …which left me in no doubt as to where his affections for Samy Velu were and followed that with a “ saya Hindraf punya orang” - and for good measure with a clench fist said ““Makaal Sakti”

When trying to place Malaysia’s “Quotable Quotes” in it’s historical context “Correct, correct, correct” comes instantly to my mind. The now iconic “I cannot remember” immortalized for eternity by Mahathir will possibly make its appearance again and again when Khir Toyo and the others have their day in court (and their time WILL come) to explain how they rape and pillage our country during their time in power. Of course ranking itself almost on par with these two quotes must be the classic “boleh selesai encik?” which we routinely salute PDRM with. You can rank them dumb, dumber and dumbest – in no particular order of preference. Till we laugh again together…steadyaku47.

A sobering thought...

At what stage in his tenure as Prime Minister did Mahathir decided that the end justifies the means? When he did that he threw away accountability and responsibility of his actions to the people. It is one thing for a businessman to take chances in making his business decisions because the consequences of his actions, good or bad, will be for him and him alone to bear – and another when the consequences of your actions affects the nation. There must have come a time when Mahathir had some self doubts as to the rightness of his decision making process – he was wrong with Musa, with Anwar, with Pak Lah. He was wrong with Eric Cheah, Abdullah Ang, Tajuddin Ramli. He was wrong about Privatization…or if you want to be tedious – the implementation of it was flawed. But what I would want to pin him to is that he was the one who brought the culture of materialism into the UMNO mind frame and in so doing, into the Malay consciousness – and by default, into the minds of the people. When you decide that the acquisition of material wealth is the path you want to take in your life, then whatever you do from then on, will reflect the importance of that choice in your life…and that my friend has been the undoing of UMNO and the many other things that is now wrong with our country. No longer will decency, family values, religion, honour, duty to country and all those values that hold together the fabric of society be considered important. Look at Khir Toyo – what need is there for him to acquire and flaunt such trappings of wealth with his new found wealth (while he was MB) with such haste. Did it ever occur to him that there would be questions asked or has the actions of other leaders that went before him precluded the need to hide his ill gotten gains? Greed is good? Yes Proton, KLCC, KLIA, the many many Highways that were built, and so many mega projects etc etc all these are Mahathir’s legacies…but the actual costs to the nation is too much for us to bear. When we sit at the kedai kopi we talk about how we could get our hands on some AP’s, how to secure that ‘negotiated’ tender for the mega project, how the brother of a certain political secretary could have got himself two Brabus..the list is endless but always the underlying factor is the acquisition of material wealth…and for that Mahathir we hold you responsible. The end does not justifies the means – not when it is ultimately the majority of the people who will pay for the excesses of a few. Now who will have the task of making things right?

I sat down with me, myself and I to ponder this. We need to look beyond Mahyuddin. Najib is already PM – a fait accompli. Mahuyuddin will want his time as PM too – but beyond that is still open season. I said that maybe further down the line, a Chinese might become the PM. Myself said that if Obama is President of the US of A then why not a non Bumi as our PM?....but Me said that it was not constitutionally possible for that to happen – but he could not come up with specifics. Then we looked at each other and realized what we were saying. “A Chinese or Indian as PM of Malaysia? Where got Jalan?” Yes we have begun to think the impossible. Yes my friends we need to start thinking about things we have never thought before if we are to enter into the 21st Century. The world is changing around us – we want and need what is best for our country. We need the best in our country to lead us – we deserve nothing less.
